Skincare for Autumn

Skincare for Autumn

Oh, fall! Time for changing leaves, warmer clothes and cooler days. As we know, any change in weather calls for skincare adjustments, and as soon as the temperature drops, our skin lets us know all about it. Skin tightness, dryness and seasonal breakouts can really put a dampener on the changing season. Fall is here and just as the changing of the seasons brings a change of closet, we have to do the same with our beauty routine. With the Autumn season, your skin might need a little more than just cleansing and protection. So here are a few tips for your skincare this Autumn.

  1. Stay hydrated. The change in climate brings new needs for the skin and that’s why we want to give you a series of tips so that you can adapt your skin care routine to this time of year and maintain an incredible look. The most important thing to keep in mind is that, in autumn, temperatures begin to drop so the cold and icy winds will cause your skin to dehydrate, become more sensitive and drier. That’s why hydration is key to your new regimen. Drinking water is a way to stay hydrated, if you want to boost your hydration eating cucumber is also a nice way to do that. Rubbing aloe vera gel to your skin might also be helpful if you feel like your skin is not being hydrated enough.
  2. Of course, cleansing is very important not just when Autumn comes. As temperatures plummet, humidity levels do too, and our skin loses moisture to the dry air around us. Make the first move and outsmart moisture-loss by swapping your light cleanser for something a little more hydrating.
  3. Pick a skincare booster. We may still be dreaming of those balmy summer days, but all that sun, chlorine and salt can mean dull, dry, dehydrated skin come fall. Time for some TLC. Always put your moisturizer onto skin right after cleansing? Try adding a booster. Think of it as an additional skincare step to help support your skin during changing seasons.
  4. Use beauty mask. Changes in weather (humidity levels and changes in temperature) can sometimes cause our skin to get upset and become dry. Try a mask with aloe and multi-vitamins, which can help instantly hydrate and help soothe stressed skin. Can’t decide which mask best suits your skin? Multi-masking might just be for you. Tailor which masks you use to target specific skin concerns and you can get rid of oiliness in your T-zone, hydrate against the drying effects of UV rays and moisturize dry patches all at the same time!
  5. Thicker moisturizer. Once you've soothed and smoothed your post-summer skin, it's time to help build up your skin's barrier before winter arrives. We've heard it before, but adding a richer moisturizer to your routine is a quick way to help skin out during changing seasons.
  6. A little bit of lip care. Lips are often the first to feel the cold (hello, chapped and flaky!). We like to put an extra bit of moisturizer on our lips and then follow up with a rich barrier balm. Lips still flaky? Use a washcloth to buff away dead skin before you moisturize and get ready to pucker up.
  7. Less exfoliating and retinol. Autumn may get your skin a little bit drier because of cold weather. So, exfoliating your skin may irritate it and give you unwanted acne. The same goes with retinol. Although you can still use them every week! No need to throw out your retinol and your exfoliating products.
  8. Protect your skin. Even if the weather is not as hot as summer, using your favorite sunscreen is a still must. The sun might not always show up but it still releases UV radiation that is harmful to your skin. So always make sure to use sunscreen. SPF 30 is the suggested SPF you should be using to protect your skin against UV rays.
  9. Vitamin C. Whether you drink vitamin c capsule or you rub a vitamin c serum on your skin, it is needed for extra skin protection. Just in case your sunscreen didn’t do the job. Better safe than sorry.
